25-Hydroxyvitamin D2 is used in serum to measure the concentration of vitamin D produced by the skin. It is known that 25-Hydroxyvitamin D2 can be detected in human serum using high-performance liquid chromatography and ultraviolet detection. Vitamin D2, known as ergocalciferol, is a fat soluble secosteroid which regulates neuromuscular function, reduces inflammation and controls cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Furthermore, 25-Hydroxyvitamin D2 can be converted into calcitriol, which can act as a local cytokine. |
